Cyclone Fengal is approaching: Yet another cyclone is on its way. The weather is quickly shifting. The intense low-pressure system that developed in the southwest Bay of Bengal and nearby east equatorial Indian Ocean has already intensified. The Meteorological Department stated that a cyclone is expected to develop shortly. The Meteorological Department forecasts that the intense depression could develop into a cyclone by November 27.
As per the Met Office report, the intense low-pressure system was located around 190 km away from Trincomalee to the southeast, 470 km from Nagapattinam to the southeast, 580 km from Puducherry to the south-southeast, and 670 km from Chennai to the south-southeast. Over the past six hours, it has been traveling in a northwestern direction at a velocity of 10 kilometers per hour.
A cyclone is on its way
At present, the cyclonic storm ‘Fengal’ is causing destruction in Tamil Nadu, with a chance of significant rainfall in various parts of the state, and rain has already begun in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu. A deep depression is developing in the southwest Bay of Bengal and is expected to track north-northwestward, possibly strengthening into a cyclonic storm by today. According to IMD, this is the third cyclonic storm of the year and Saudi Arabia has named it as a highly potent storm.
It is probable that the cyclone will make landfall in Tamil Nadu and the northern regions of Sri Lanka today. The cyclonic storm ‘Phangal’ signifies a lack of concern. During the storm hitting the coast, heavy rain and powerful winds are expected.
Heavy Rainfall alert
An orange alert has been issued in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram districts as well as Puducherry. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Pudukkottai districts along with Puducherry for November 29.
IndiGo Airlines enforces travel guidance
IndiGo airlines have provided a travel advisory due to bad weather, explaining delays and rescheduling of flights from Chennai, Tuticorin, and Madurai because of the adverse weather conditions. A flash flood warning has been issued by the IMD for the watersheds of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and nearby regions.
