Earthquake: A significant earthquake has struck Tibet, registering a magnitude of 7.1 in the early hours of Tuesday. The tremors were felt not only in Nepal but also across Delhi-NCR, Bihar, and Assam in India.
US Geological Survey report
Initial reports indicated that the quake occurred near the Nepal-Tibet border; however, the US Geological Survey confirmed that it originated near Xizang in Tibet, at a depth of 10 km. This area is in proximity to Nepal. Meanwhile, the China Earthquake Networks Agency reported a 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurring 380 km from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, early Tuesday morning, noting that many residents live in the vicinity.
Alarming but yet no report about casualties
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage related to this earthquake. The seismic activity has caused alarm among residents in Nepal, with tremors felt in Kathmandu and surrounding areas, including regions near Mount Everest. Many individuals were jolted from their sleep and rushed outside in panic. The earthquake’s impact was also evident in various parts of North India, highlighting its intensity. In Bihar, social media was abuzz with videos showing fans and light fixtures swaying from the ceiling, as startled individuals fled their homes in response to the quake.

Epicenter of the earthquake
Several media reports also indicate that the epicenter was located 3 kilometers from Gokarneshwar in Nepal, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Reports from the Earthquake Network app confirmed the seismic activity. Preliminary data indicated that a separate earthquake of 6.5 magnitude occurred 84 kilometers northwest of Lobuche in Nepal, also at a depth of 10 kilometers, affecting northern Bihar and Patna.
