ATAGS Gun System: The Indian Army is going through a phase of modernization of its artillery regiment. For this, the strength of the army will have to be increased through cannons made in the country. The government’s Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the purchase of ATAGS i.e. Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System for the Indian Army. This entire deal is worth about Rs 7000 crore. This cannon is completely indigenous. A total of 307 howitzers are being purchased from an indigenous company.

Private company will produce

ATAGS has been designed and developed in the country itself. Now they will be produced by private companies Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems. The lowest bidder is always selected in the deal. Since indigenous defense companies have to be promoted. For this, the production of 307 cannons has been divided between the two companies. Bharat Forge was the lowest bidder, so it has to give 60% of the cannons. Tata Advanced has to do 40% of the manufacturing.

Strength of ATAGS

ATAGS is the only cannon in the world that can hit a target up to 48 kilometers away. That is, it has become the world’s longest range cannon. This 155 mm 52 caliber cannon can fire 3 rounds of shells in 15 seconds. It can fire 15 rounds of shells in 3 minutes and 60 rounds of shells continuously in 60 minutes. It has been designed for use in all weather conditions. After successfully testing it from the desert of Pokhran to the hills of Sikkim, it has now been selected for the army.
