What not to offer: Offering Tulsi and turmeric on Shivling is prohibited.
Directions: While doing Jalabhishek of Shivling, your face should face south. The north direction is considered the direction of the gods. Water should not be offered while standing in the east and west directions.
Parikrama: Complete circumambulation of Shivling has not been done. The water offered on Shivling is sacred, so crossing it is not considered auspicious.
Somsutra: According to religious beliefs, the place where water flows after Jalabhishek on Shivling is called Jaldhari or Somsutra. Mother Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Shiva’s daughter Ashok Sundari and Kartikeya ji reside in Jaldhari. So if you are doing Parikrama of Shivling, turn back from where the water flows.
