Mahakumbh Disaster: Many devotees reached for bathing on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya at the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Due to excessive crowd, a stampede occurred near Sangam Nose, where many people were injured. The administration has intensified relief and rescue work, and the injured were immediately rushed to the hospital.
How many people were injured in the stampede?
According to the officials present on the spot, 20 to 25 devotees have been injured due to the stampede. The seriously injured have been referred to the Higher Center for Higher Medical Facilities, while the others are being treated at the Central Hospital of Mahakumbh. It is a matter of relief that the death of any devotee has not been confirmed so far.

What did the administration say?
Akanksha Rana, OSD (Officer on Special Duty) of Mahakumbh Mela, informed the media that a stampede situation arose due to an excessive crowd of devotees on the Sangam coast. However, the administration soon controlled the problem, and the injured were immediately provided medical assistance.

How did the stampede occur?
According to sources, some women present at the fair started suffocating, due to which they fell on each other. Due to this, the barricading broke, and the crowd became uncontrolled. Due to the sudden chaos, a stampede situation arose.
Steps taken for crowd control
After the accident, the administration immediately implemented the crowd control plan.
Devotees’ entry into the Maha Kumbh Mela was temporarily stopped.
Devotees coming from outside the city are not being allowed entry.
More than 10 District Magistrates have been given the responsibility of crowd management.
Officials have been put on alert in the Prayagraj border areas.
