7.50 lakh working employees and 4.50 lakh retired employees in Madhya Pradesh are suffering a loss of about <0x07>620 to <0x07>5640 every month due to not getting Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) from January 2024. At the same time, by not providing a 4% dearness allowance to the employees from January 2024, the government has saved about 800 crore rupees in 8 months.
DA has not increased for 8 months
Despite the daily rise in inflation, State Secretary of the Third Class Employees Union Umashankar Tiwari reports that state employees have not received a 4% dearness allowance or relief for the past 8 months. State employees trail central employees by 4%. We only provide the dearness allowance to combat inflation, but Madhya Pradesh’s employees haven’t seen an increase in their dearness allowance in the past eight months.
Arrears spanning so many months will be available.
On March 15, 2024, the Mohan government of Madhya Pradesh increased the dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and officers by 4%. The DA, previously at 42 percent, now stands at 46 percent. Despite the increase in DA, the elections prevented the release of the arrears. Currently, July marks the release of the installment of the arrears. We will now distribute the outstanding DA arrears in August and September.
DA has not increased twice a year
Employees receive DA increases twice a year. Normally, we increase DA in January and July, but this year, we increased DA in March instead of January. At the same time, no decision has been taken to increase DA in July. This is why the demand for it has now intensified.
The inflation rate is rising, but not the dearness allowance.
Umashankar Tiwari says that the employees have not yet received dearness allowance and dearness relief, but inflation is increasing equally. The prices of every commodity are increasing. The state government should also increase dearness allowance and dearness relief by 4% from January 2024, like the central government. The state government has already saved crores of rupees by not paying the arrears of dearness allowance or dearness relief to the employees like the Center.
Tiwari says that by January, many employees will retire, suffering losses due to not increasing DA. This is why the demand for an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) has intensified recently. He has demanded the Chief Minister of the state, Mohan Yadav, to give financial strength to the working and retired employees by increasing dearness allowance and dearness relief from January 2024 to face the rising inflation.
