However, the refund process is different if the ticket was booked at a railway ticket counter.

Refund Process for Counter Tickets: File a TDR

If a ticket was booked at the railway ticket counter and the train is cancelled, the passenger must file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) to claim a refund. The refund will be processed only after the TDR is filed.

How to File a TDR for Refund?

  • Visit the official IRCTC website.
  • Create an account (if you don’t have one).
  • Click on the TDR link and enter the required details such as PNR number, train number, and captcha code.
  • Enter the OTP (One-Time Password) received on your registered mobile number.
  • The screen will display complete PNR details. Click on the refund option.
  • You will receive a confirmation message on your mobile.
  • Enter the bank account details where you want to receive the refund.
  • After completing these steps, your TDR will be processed, and the refund will be credited to your account if the train is cancelled.
