Uttarakhand News Today: Under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s leadership, Uttarakhand will become the first state in independent India to implement the Uniform Civil Code today, i.e. January 27, 20255. With the implementation of UCC, many changes will be seen in the state’s rules of marriage, divorce, and live-in relationships.

The same law will now apply to citizens of every religion in Uttarakhand. Until now, different personal law rules have been used in matters like marriage, divorce, and wills in Uttarakhand, but now all the rules have changed. The UCC portal will be inaugurated at 12:30 p.m. on January 27 at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. Now, a law has been implemented for everyone in Uttarakhand. In the coming days, some more states will implement the UCC.

According to Surekha Dangwal, Vice Chancellor of Doon University and committee member who drafted the UCC, gender equality will now be established in marriage, divorce, and inheritance. Provisions will also be made to consider all children born from marriage and live-in relationships equal.

More than one marriage is illegal

UCC has banned Halala, which is prevalent in Islam; on the other hand, more than one marriage is also illegal now. From now on, no person in Muslim society will be able to marry more than once. Second marriage cannot be done while the first wife is alive.

What are the rules for live-in relationships?

Parents’ approval will now be necessary to live in a live-in relationship. Those living in a live-in relationship must declare their ties before the district registrar. Information about this will also have to be given before ending the relationship. If found living in a live-in relationship for more than a month without providing information, a jail term of three months or a fine of 10 thousand rupees can be imposed. If a child is born during the live-in relationship, it will be considered legitimate. Along with this, the woman can demand alimony if the relationship breaks.

Marriage will not happen before 18

The minimum marriage age will now be the same for boys and girls of all religions. The minimum age for marriage of girls will be 18 and for boys 21. Till now, the age of adulthood for Muslim girls was fixed. With the implementation of UCC, child marriage will be stopped.

Marriage registration compulsory

Marriage registration has been made compulsory at the UCC. This will allow disputes like succession and inheritance to be resolved.

What will be the rules for divorce?

In UCC, the reasons for and grounds for divorce for husband and wife are the same. Therefore, the husband can now divorce, and the wife can also demand divorce on the same basis.
