Weather Update: Most of North India’s states are experiencing severe cold. In the morning, dense fog is recorded in most states.

A warning has been issued regarding cold waves in many states of India, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. At the same time, people’s lives have become miserable due to the cold in Delhi, too. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog will likely prevail in Delhi on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Many major roads are also closed due to snowfall in the hilly areas, which may cause problems for passersby; the Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in many parts of the country.

According to the IMD, severe cold will prevail in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana Jammu and Kashmir from December 30 to January 1. There is a possibility of it being very cold in these areas on New Year’s Day.

Kashmir is witnessing the heaviest snowfall of this season. The Jammu-Srinagar national highway is closed, rail services between Banihal and Baramulla are suspended, and air traffic from Srinagar has been stopped.

Record rainfall in Delhi

Delhi received a record 41.2 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the highest in December since 1923. After the rain, the maximum temperature dropped to 15.8 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature of the cold will increase in Delhi.

According to the IMD, rain has left the plains, but heavy snowfall has been seen in the hilly areas. A warning has been issued regarding light rain in some areas of the hilly states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir.

Rain can be seen in the southern parts of the country. In South India, there may be rain in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andaman and Nicobar. Thunderstorms can also occur here.
