Weather Update: Holi is around the corner. The whole nation, including Bengal, will be illuminated by the vibrant festival of colors. However, the weather is also quite striking. In Kolkata, temperatures could soar to around 35 degrees Celsius, while western districts might see highs of 38 degrees. There’s a chance of tidal waves in the sea, and meteorologists have forecasted rain for North Bengal.

Temparature in Kolkata

The Alipore Meteorological Department reports a cyclone forming in northeastern Bangladesh, with another one in the southeastern Bay of Bengal. Overall, temperatures in Kolkata are expected to rise to between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius, with some districts possibly exceeding 38 degrees. For now, South Bengal is likely to remain dry, with clear skies.

The mornings and evenings will be pleasantly mild, but daytime temperatures will climb, leading to slightly uncomfortable nights. The heat is expected to intensify starting Tuesday, with meteorologists predicting a rise of up to 5 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures and 4 degrees in minimum temperatures over the next four to five days.

Notably, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 22.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, while Sunday’s maximum reached 31.4 degrees. Humidity levels in the air range from 45 to 94 percent.

On Monday, North Bengal will largely experience dry conditions, but rain may return starting Tuesday. Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated in the hilly regions of North Bengal. Areas like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar could see light to moderate rain with thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rain possibilities

Scattered rain is also expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar on Friday. Over the next five days, maximum temperatures in North Bengal may rise by 2 to 4 degrees, while minimum temperatures could increase by 2 to 3 degrees. Additionally, there is a risk of tidal surges in the sea.
