The PM Internship Scheme has been implemented as a pilot project across the country. Till Sunday, more than 1,55,000 youth have registered for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme. In the first phase of the scheme, which was launched on October 3, the response from candidates has been better than expected by the policymakers. What is PM Internship Scheme?
The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme will give 12 months of internship opportunities to 10 million youth in the top 500 companies of the country in the next 5 years. The government has identified all the 500 participating entities and listed them on a web portal operated by the corporate affairs ministry. This ministry administers this scheme. The portal shows that more than 80,000 internships have already been awarded in 24 sectors by about 200 companies.
Age Limit
Jubilant Foodworks, Eicher Motor Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Tech Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Bajaj Finance, and Muthoot Finance are among the companies that have offered internships so far. This program provides young people aged 21-24 with an opportunity to get acquainted with a real business environment in a variety of sectors, helping them gain skills and work experience. E-mail queries sent to the corporate affairs ministry and companies on Monday for comments on the internship plan were not received at the time of publication.
Eligibility for PM Internship Scheme
Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana was launched with two specific goals: to provide on-the-job training to the youth and, at the same time, help the unemployed youth get basic financial relief through a stipend.
Criteria
There are 3 basic eligibility criteria for the internship scheme. First, you must be between 21 and 24 years of age as of the last date to apply for the internship and must be an Indian citizen.
You must not have full-time employment at the time of the internship.
Students pursuing a full-time degree or other course are not eligible, although youth pursuing distance learning or online courses can apply.
How to Register for the PM Internship Scheme
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria must first apply by creating a profile online on the portal. Once the profile is created, candidates will be approached on behalf of the partner companies for the same. Remember, this scheme is a direct benefit transfer scheme. This means that once the internship is offered, candidates will receive Rs 4500 directly from the government and the remaining amount from the company. Apart from this, an amount of Rs 6,000 will also be transferred by the government at the time of taking charge to help the candidates with any contingencies.
