The department has issued a tsunami warning and warned of waves up to one meter on the southern coast of Kyushu and the nearby island of Shikoku.

The nuclear plants of Kyushu and Shikoku are being investigated due to the earthquake. Japan’s public television NHK said there were reports of broken windows at Mizayaki Airport near the epicenter of the earthquake.
