Ingredients:
1/2 cup moong dal
1/2 cup rice
1 cup finely chopped spinach
1 small onion (finely chopped)
1 tomato (finely chopped)
2-3 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
1/2 inch ginger (grated)
1 green chilli (finely chopped)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tbsp ghee
Salt to taste
3-4 cups water
Method of preparation:
Wash and soak dal and rice: Wash moong dal and rice thoroughly for 15-20 minutes.
Tadka: Heat ghee in a cooker, add cumin seeds, garlic, ginger and green chilli and fry lightly.
Add vegetables: Now add chopped onion and fry till golden brown. Then add tomatoes and cook till soft.
Add spices: Add turmeric, salt and garam masala and mix well.
Add spinach: Add chopped spinach and saute for 1-2 minutes.
Add dal and rice: Add soaked rice and dal and add 3-4 cups of water.
Cook: Close the cooker’s lid until 2-3 whistles.
Serve: Serve the khichdi with khichdi and pickle. Khichdikhichdi becomes Khichdi. Add some hot water to make it it consistent. You can also add vegetables like carrots and peas. Adding ghee enhances its taste even more.
