Ingredients for making Dal Tadka:
250 grams of gram dal
One bowl of finely chopped onion
One bowl of finely chopped tomato
Two teaspoons of ginger garlic paste
Two big cardamoms
Two bay leaves
Two dried red chillies
Two tablespoons of ghee
One teaspoon of turmeric powder
One teaspoon of chili powder
One teaspoon of garam masala powder
A pinch of asafoetida
1 inch piece of cinnamon
Salt according to taste
Finely chopped coriander
Method of making Dal Tadka
Wash the gram dal thoroughly and soak it for half an hour. Using soaked gram dal doubles the taste of the dal. Now put two tablespoons of ghee in the cooker and add half a teaspoon of cumin seeds, two bay leaves, two big cardamoms and two dried red chillies and let them crackle. As soon as the tadka crackles well, add finely chopped onion and one teaspoon of ginger garlic paste and fry well.
When the onion is cooked well, add all the ground spices and finely chopped tomatoes and fry for 2 to 3 minutes. When all the spices are fried well, add soaked lentils and use 1.5 to 2 glasses of water. Let it whistle 3 to 4 times and when the whistle blows, put one spoon of ghee in a pan and add half a spoon of cumin seeds, one red chilli, one or two pinches of asafoetida and fry it. This enhances the taste a lot.
