Kuttu Khichdi: India is the country of festival. There are many festivals celebrated during the year. If we talk about the  Navratri, so it is the festival of deep rest and rejuvenation. The festival of Navratri is celebrated with great reverence and faith in Hinduism. During these nine days, 9 forms of Maa Durga are worshiped. People observe fasting during the nine days. Many devotees keep fast for 9 days continuously and express their devotion to Maa Durga.

In Indian tradition, it is believed that fasting is a important way to pay your gratitude to the Goddess Durga. In such a situation, during these 9 days, what should the fasting person eat so that their health remains good and does not even feel hungry.

Keeping this problem in mind, today we have brought the recipe of Kuttu Khichdi. This khichdi is very easy to make and you can add a touch of flavour to it using less ingredients. Let’s know the ingredients and method to make it:

Ingredients for making Kuttu Khichdi:

  • 1/2 cup buckwheat flour Half-ground or coarsely ground grain
  • 1 small potato
  • 1/5 tsp chopped green chillies
  • 1/5 tsp chopped ginger/ginger
  • 1 tsp cumin/whole cumin seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida powder
  • 2 tbsp butter/desi ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/5 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (for garnishing)

Kuttu Khichdi Recipe:

  • To make kuttu khichdi, first wash the kuttu porridge (Daliya) and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  • Peel the potatos and cut them into small pieces.
  • Now drain the water from the kuttu porridge (Daliya)  and keep aside.
  • Take a pressure cooker and heat ghee and cumin seeds in it. When the cumin seeds crackle well, add the potatoes, ginger and green chillies.
  • Now add buckwheat porridge (Daliya) and mix for a few seconds.
  • After mixing for a while, add 1/5 cup of water and salt.
  • Pressure cook for 10-15 minutes after that low the flame and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  • Turn off the flame and allow the cooker to cool completely.
  • (If it seems raw and not fully cooked then turn on the gas again and cook for a while so that the taste will become good)
  • Now open the cooker and puff up the kuttu khichdi.
  • Finally, add lemon juice and chopped coriander and a teaspoon of ghee (add ghee only if you eat ghee, otherwise leave this step)
  • If you eat curd and chutney during fasting, serve with it.
  • If you want to enhance the taste, add some coarsely ground roasted peanuts as it makes the taste better.
