Navratri fasting food recipe : Navratri is a beautiful time of the year when we pray to Goddess Durga and celebrate with devotion. Many of us keep a fast (vrat) during these nine days, avoiding wheat, rice, onion, garlic, and regular salt. But that doesn’t mean we have to eat boring food!

Sabudana Khichdi
Sabudana khichdi is a favorite during fasting. It’s soft, slightly chewy, and full of flavors. The peanuts add a nice crunch, and the lemon juice gives it a tangy twist. Plus, it’s super filling and easy to digest. Perfect for breakfast or dinner!
Ingredients:
1 cup sabudana (sago pearls)
1 boiled potato (chopped)
2 tbsp peanuts (crushed)
1 green chili (chopped)
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp ghee or oil
Rock salt to taste
1 tbsp lemon juice
How to Make:
1. Wash sabudana and soak it in water for 4-5 hours. Drain the extra water.
2. Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
3. Add green chili and potato. Cook for 2 minutes.
4. Add sabudana, peanuts, and rock salt. Mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes.
5. Turn off the heat, add lemon juice, and mix well.
6. Enjoy it hot with curd on the side!
Kuttu Ki Puri
Who doesn’t love crispy, golden puris? Kuttu (buckwheat) flour makes them perfect for fasting. Since kuttu flour doesn’t have gluten, we use boiled potatoes to bind the dough. These puris taste amazing with curd or vrat-friendly aloo sabzi.
Ingredients:
1 cup kuttu ka atta (buckwheat flour)
1 boiled potato (mashed)
Rock salt to taste
Water (as needed)
Oil for frying
How to Make:
1. Mix kuttu flour, mashed potato, and rock salt in a bowl.
2. Add a little water and knead it into a firm dough.
3. Make small balls and roll them into puris.
4. Heat oil in a pan and deep-fry the puris until golden brown.
5. Serve hot with curd or potato curry.
Samak Rice Khichdi
Missing your usual rice? Samak rice is a perfect replacement! This khichdi is light, easy to digest, and super tasty. It’s mildly spiced, so it doesn’t feel too heavy. Serve it with curd for a comforting meal.
Ingredients:
1 cup samak rice (barnyard millet)
1 potato (chopped)
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 green chili (chopped)
1 tbsp ghee or oil
Rock salt to taste
2 cups water
How to Make:
1. Wash and soak samak rice for 15 minutes.
2. Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and green chili.
3. Add potato and cook for 2 minutes.
4. Add soaked rice, water, and rock salt. Mix well.
5. Cover and cook for 10 minutes on low flame.
6. Serve hot with curd for a tasty meal.
Makhana Kheer :
What’s a festival without a little sweetness? Makhana kheer is the perfect fasting dessert. It’s creamy, delicious, and full of nutrition. You can enjoy it warm or cold – either way, it tastes heavenly!
Ingredients:
1 cup makhana (foxnuts)
2 cups milk
2 tbsp sugar or jaggery
½ tsp cardamom powder
1 tbsp chopped dry fruits
How to Make:
1. Roast makhana in a dry pan until crisp.
2. Heat milk in a pan and add roasted makhana.
3. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the makhana turns soft.
4. Add sugar, cardamom, and dry fruits. Stir well.
5. Cook for 5 more minutes. Serve warm or chilled.
