Washington Sundar amazed cricket fans during the India vs. New Zealand Test series, where team India lost by 0-3. Sundar has made his international return through this series. He proved himself in both Pune and Mumbai, where the IND vs. NZ 2nd and 3rd tests were held, respectively. Team India’s focus now shifted to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in the soil of kangaroos. Sundar can play an important role in Australia too. But can he make some impact on the IPL 2025 Mega Auction?

Did Sunrisers Hyderabad take the right decision to exclude the right-arm off-break bowler from the player retention list?

Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sundar’s last year IPL team, released him before the auction. Now Sundar will have to try his luck during the bidding war. Now some cricket pundits think that Washington Sundar can spark a bidding war between the franchises. Washington’s recent form created lots of discussion around him. But his IPL stats are not so appealing. In that sense, another question arises: Did Sunrisers Hyderabad take the right decision to exclude the right-arm off-break bowler from the player retention list?

Sundar could play only two matches in IPL 2024

According to stats and media reports, the 25-year-old all-rounder was mostly ignored by the Sunrisers Hyderabad from the playing XI. In the end, Sundar could play only two matches in IPL 2024, in which he took just one wicket, conceding 73 runs in five overs. It is believed that his chance in the playing XI was reduced for the Impact Player rule.

Akash Chopra recently said…

Former cricketer and now cricket expert Akash Chopra recently said that Mumbai Indians should go for the all-rounder. Chopra said, “They might have an entire Indian batting lineup and an overseas bowling lineup, with a couple of Indian spinners. They will definitely go after Yuzvendra Chahal. I don’t know whether they will get him or not. They might want to keep Washington Sundar.”

Using the red-soil Wankhede track, Washington Sundar took a total of 5 wickets in the IND vs. NZ 3rd Test match: 4 wickets in the first innings and 1 wicket, respectively.
