Amid the controversy over the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allegedly refusing to have ‘Pakistan’ written on the team’s Champions Trophy kit as part of the tournament’s logo, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has sent a stern message to the BCCI.

Media reports suggest that the BCCI has decided not to include ‘Pakistan’ on the team kit due to the ‘Host Nation Regulation,’ as the Indian team will play all its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai under the hybrid model. However, the ICC has now informed the BCCI that it is mandatory to have ‘Pakistan’ written on the Indian team’s kit, as Pakistan is the host country of the tournament.

What Action Can ICC Take Against BCCI?

An ICC official, quoted by A-Sports, stated, “It is the responsibility of every team to put the tournament logo on their jersey. All teams must follow this rule.” The official also added that if the Champions Trophy logo and the name of the host country, Pakistan, are not included on the Indian team’s kit, strict action could be taken against the team.

According to ICC rules, it is compulsory for teams to display the name of the host country of the tournament on their jerseys.

BCCI Does Not Want to Write Pakistan on the Jersey

Earlier, an IANS report mentioned that the BCCI does not want to include Pakistan’s name on the Indian team’s shirt. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly denied receiving any such information from the BCCI.

Dispute Between BCCI and PCB

There has been rising tension between the BCCI and PCB in recent months. The Indian board refused to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Eventually, an agreement was reached for India to play its matches in Dubai under the hybrid model. However, this arrangement may lead to heavy losses for the BCCI in the future, as the PCB agreed to organize the Champions Trophy 2025 in a hybrid model only under the condition that the PCB would not visit India for the ICC tournament.
