MS Dhoni’s IPL future remains a big question ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline and mega auction. There is all kinds of speculation on whether Dhoni will play in IPL 2025 or not. Now at the age of 43, there has been an update from Chennai Super Kings CEO Kashi Viswanathan on whether he will enter the league to take his team to the playoffs for the last time.

CSK CEO Kashi Viswanathan at an event explained what kind of consensus the franchises have reached about retaining Dhoni for next season. The CEO told Sports Wickton, “We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team. But Dhoni hasn’t confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni has said that I will tell you before October 31. We hope he plays. At the moment we are waiting for their decision.”

MS Dhoni is the most high-profile player who could benefit from the IPL’s uncapped player rule, which allows teams to retain former Indian players at an uncapped base price of Rs 4 crore. Under the new rule, if he has not played international cricket for India for the last five years. Since Dhoni retired after the 2019 ODI World Cup, he could join CSK at a reduced price, giving the franchise a chance to keep most of its core players from the 2024 season.

Dhoni has handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, but he remains in the team as a senior mentor and has become synonymous with CSK’s yellow jersey. He was in great form in the last IPL as well, batting in the lower order, scoring runs at an average of 53 and an impressive strike rate of 220.

MS Dhoni has been an iconic figure for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has captained the team since its inception in 2008 and led CSK to five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023), making them one of the most successful franchises in IPL history.
