Australia’s star opener David Warner hung up his boots in international cricket in January this year. Warner is now pumped up for the Border Gavaskar Trophy and is ready to take a U-turn from his retirement. Warner says that if he gets an offer to play in the India vs Australia BGT series, he will not hesitate to perticipate for Australia.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) will begin in Perth from November 22 between India and Australia. The two teams will clash in five Test matches. Warner, who turns 38 on October 27, doesn’t mind taking part in the Sheffield Shield to prepare for the BGT.

Warner told Code Sports, “I am always available, just the delay in getting the call. I’m always serious. To be honest, the players have played just one red-ball match (the first round of the Shield) since their last Test match in February. So my preparation is more or less the same. If they really need me for this series (against India), I am ready to play the next shield game as well. I retired for the right reasons and I wanted to finish the game. But if they desperately need someone, I’m ready. I won’t shy away from it.”

After Warner’s retirement, Australia cricket team is looking for reliable opening batting pair. Australia is considering 19-year-old Sam Constas and veteran Marcus Harris for the role of opener. Steve Smith was also tried as an opener. However, Smith will play at number-4 in the India series.

He recently revealed this. “I was asked (by Pat Cummins and Andrew McDonald) what number would be my priority to bat and I said four. I saw a few things last week that said that I have requested to bat at number four. It wasn’t. I said wherever you ask me to bat, I am happy, but yes, number four would be my ideal position.”
