There are lots of talented young cricketers in India. Many of them have already shown their talent in domestic cricket, like the Ranji Trophy and the Duleep Trophy. So it is quite difficult for the BCCI selectors to choose the perfect squad for any format of the game. Another batsman now expressed his desire to play Test cricket for team India. He is none other than Sanju Samson. Sanju, already a popular name among Indian cricket fans, played some memorable innings in limited overs matches. Now he is willing to play Test matches. Sanju is known for his well-trained batting skills. A Test cricket player has to know the basics of the game correctly and needs to cool his head for long-standing innings. Sanju has the qualities; he showed his talent before in domestic cricket.
In the last match of the 3 T20 matches series against Bangladesh, Sanju Samson made his mark with belligerent batting. He scored 111 runs off 47 balls. Samson hit 11 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. His strike rate was 236.17. Now he wants to show his skills in Test matches just like T20.
Samson has expressed his desire to play in the oldest format of cricket. He has also spoken to Indian captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir for this. Sanju Samson said in an interview that he is confident of succeeding in Test cricket. He is still waiting for a call from the BCCI selectors. The good thing is that Rohit and Gambhir have also given positive answers. He wants to see Samson in Test cricket. Now it remains to be seen when this wicketkeeper batsman from Kerala can enter the biggest format.
“I believe I have the talent to succeed in Test cricket. I don’t want to limit myself to white-ball cricket. My desire is to play Test cricket for India. Before Duleep Trophy, the leadership (coach and captain) told me that they were considering me for red-ball cricket. Have asked me to take it seriously and play more Ranji Trophy matches.” Samson credited his performance in T20 matches to the freedom given by him to captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir.
The Rajasthan Royals captain said, “Surya keeps his words well. He has clarity in what he wants from the players. He is a good leader. Gautam bhai has always supported me. When you have someone as a coach who believes in your ability, playing cricket becomes even more fun.”
