Some reports have been circulating on social media that Mumbai Indians (MI) have decided to retain players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jaspreet Bumrah for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Last season under Pandya’s captaincy team finished at the bottom of the points table by winning just four out of 14 matches. However, Pandya can continue with team as captain and Suryakumar as his deputy. Suryakumar, who has recently been made the regular captain of team India for T20 international cricket.
It is heavily expected that Suryakumar, the T20I captain of team India, will have to paly vice captain role in Mumbai Indians. The captaincy in Mumbai Indians may have no chance to chenge. That means Hardik to remnain as MI’s skipper. Hardik Pandya has captained India in 16 T20I matches so far, in which 10 matches have been won and 5 lost, while 1 has been tied. Suryakumar has led India to 10 wins out of 13 matches, including 2 losses and 1 tie.
Recently, former Sri Lanka cricketer Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as the head coach of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025. Under the coaching of Mark Boucher, IPL 2024 was disappointing for Mumbai Indians, where the team finished at the bottom of the table. Jayawardene had earlier served as the head coach of Mumbai Indians from 2017 to 2022.
