The Indian women’s cricket team started their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a match against New Zealand on 4 October. Indian women’s team got a shameful defeat
The Indian women’s cricket team played its first match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against the New Zealand women’s cricket team on 4 October at the Dubai ground. This match was completely one-sided and the Indian team had to face defeat by 58 runs.
In this match, New Zealand team captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided to bat first and batting first, her team scored 160 runs for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Meanwhile, the captain played a captaincy innings of 57 runs in 36 balls. Renuka Singh got two wickets for India while Arundhati Roy and Asha Shobhana got one success each.
The Indian women’s cricket team, which came out to chase the target of 161 runs of the New Zealand cricket team, had a very bad start and the Indian team lost its first wicket in the form of Shefali Verma on the very first ball of the second over. After this, wickets kept falling continuously and despite lakhs of efforts, the Indian women’s team was all out in 19 overs.
Meanwhile, the total score of the team could reach only 102 runs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played the highest innings of 15 runs from India. Rosemary Mair took four wickets from New Zealand. While Lea Tahuhu took three wickets, Eden Carson took two and Amelia Kerr took one wicket. Due to this defeat, Team India has reached the fourth position in the points table and its net run rate has become – 2.90, which is very bad. In such a situation, if the Indian team loses 1 or 2 more matches in the coming time, then its journey will end here.
