Three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) title holders Kolkata Knight Riders showed faith over many Caribbean cricketers. Recently, Evin Lewis smashed a 61-ball century for his country against Sri Lanka.

The West Indies had an ODI series against Sri Lanka; the Lankans have won the three-match series by 2-1. The West Indies earn some momentum by winning the last match of the series before the upcoming ODI series against England, which is scheduled to start on October 31 at Antigua.

Evin Lewis batted tenaciously in the second inning of the 3rd ODI; he hit a tonne with just 61 balls to spare. Evin remained not out at 102 (61); he decorated his innings with nine 4s and four 6s, with a strike rate of 167.21.

Lewis has gathered experience in various Asian T20 tournaments with several clubs. His IPL stats are decent; he scored 654 runs by playing 27 matches with an average of 27.25; his highest run in IPL is 65. The 32-year-old left-handed batter has played for Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants in his IPL career.

Before the IPL 2025, all franchises have to announce their retention players list. According to the BCCI rule, each franchise can retain a maximum number of six players from their previous season squad, including by using the RTM rule. So, cricket fans are expecting to witness some big names shift their luggage at the new team bus. 

Should KKR go for Evin Lewis?

Many Caribbean players were part of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Chirs Gayle also played for the Kolkata side.Sunil Narine and Andre Russell are likely to stay at the Purple Brigade. Johnson Charles and Carlos Brathwaite also played for KKR. Sherfane Rutherford, who was in the IPL 2024 squad with Russell and Narine, has participated in only one match. Previous season’s champion, KKR, will need some extra firepower in their batting and to increase bench strength. Will the club opt to go for another Caribbean? Have to wait to find the answer.
