There are lots of questions around MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL 2025. Speculations increase after some comments made by the CSK CEO, Kasi Viswanath. Recently, he said that MS Dhoni has not informed them yet about his availability for the upcoming edition. CSK CEO made these comments ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Now MS Dhoni himself has spoken about his future in IPL, as well as his intention to play in the Indian Premier League.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, now 43 years old, has expressed his future plans clearly. He said, “When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy. The emotions keep coming; the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years.”

Dhoni, in a promotional event, said about how much he has to prove to perform at this point in his career. He said, “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play.” He has to maintain his fitness, which can justify the high standards like the IPL. “I have to keep myself fit for nine months so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit.”

But is he going to play for the Chennai Super Kings? Dhoni did not reply to this with a straight answer. He just said, “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play.” In the last edition of the Indian Premier League, MS Dhoni stepped down from CSK’s captaincy and handed it over to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Now it is expected that Gaikwad is going to lead the team in the IPL 2025 as well.

The Chennai base franchise can now easily retain Dhoni as an uncapped player for ₹4 crore as BCCI has reinstated a rule that was previously abolished in 2021.
