Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians IPL 2025: The mist around Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians is yet not clear. Though there are some reports strongly suggesting that MI retain their former captain. If Rohit is retained by the Mumbai Indians, then he may have a chance to get a new role in the team as a senior cricketer.
A few weeks ago, some reports on social media claimed that Rohit could change ships. Now, those kinds of reports or claims are now reducing day by day. Instead, Rohit’s chances to stay in Mumbai now increase heavily.
Last season, before the IPL 2024, shocking everyone, the Mumbai Indians got Hardik Pandya on the squad from the Gujarat Titans to make their new captain in place of Rohit Sharma, who has won five IPL titles for the team.
Under Hardik Pandya’s guidance, the Mumbai Indians failed miserably in the Indian Premier League 2024. MI finished bottom of the league table with only 4 wins in 14 games. The former champion side ended that IPL season in 10th place among ten teams. Hardik Pandya himself could not perform well in the tournament. Ha had to face continued trolling and criticism.
Mumbai Indians management chose Hardik as their captain as part of their future plans because Rohit, now 37, already exceeds his career best part. His batting number in the IPL not so impressive for the previous few seasons. Sharma’s all-over IPL batting average is 29.72. He played 257 IPL matches and scored 6,628 runs. Rohit’s IPL best performance was in IPL 2016. He then scored 489 runs in 14 matches with an average of 44.45. In the previous season, Rohit batted with an average of 32.05.
Rohit can still produce some effective innings, but his experience goes beyond those stats. Mumbai Indians can utilise Rohit’s expertise to guide young talents. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav have shown good relationships during T20I matches. Along with these two cricketers, Rohit has the ability to bridge between current starts and upcoming stars.
