Kolkata Knight Riders may have plans to retain Andre Russell and Sunil Narine for the upcoming IPL season. As per BCCI rules, teams can retain six players from the previous season’s squad, including the RTM rule. Six retainers can be Indian, overseas, or a combination of both. It is a difficult task for IPL team officials to finalise only six names.

Kolkata Knight Riders crowned as the champions of IPL 2024. They won the trophy by their team game. So many players had contributed to the team’s success. As per the recent reports, KKR management is all set to retain their two old guns, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Not any strong claim yet on Phil Salt or Mitchell Starc.

Apart from Narine and Russell, there was another cricketer from the West Indies in last year’s KKR squad. The batter, known as a T20 cricket specialist, has huge experience in club cricket across countries. Even he is one of the main men for the West Indies T20I team now playing against Sri Lanka. We are talking about Sherfane Rutherford. KKR included Rutherford into their squad before IPL 2024; he hardly got any chance to showcase his talent that season.

According to stats, Sherfane Rutherford played only one match in IPL 2024 but did not bat. He has played a total of 11 matches in the IPL so far, batted at an average of 15.14, strike rate 106. His best score was against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 26*. Sherfane Rutherford has played many T20 leagues over the years; he has established himself as a T20 specialist batter. But his time in IPL was never so memorable. Sherfane Rutherford is now in form with his bat and scored unbeaten 74 runs against Sri Lanka in Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
