Punjab is a state which has always brought glory to the country on the world stage. Be it agriculture or sports or players. Be it Asian Games or Olympics, players from Punjab have increased the value of the tricolour flag everywhere. Punjab has always contributed significantly in promoting Indian sports. Players from Punjab have performed brilliantly in every sport.
Supporting in every way
This is the reason why the Punjab government is leaving no stone unturned in encouraging its players. As a result, the players of Punjab are increasing their name and respect in the country and abroad. The current government of Punjab is also supporting its players in every way. The Punjab government had come up with a new sports policy in the year 2023, announcing cash rewards of ₹3 crore, ₹2 crore and ₹1 crore respectively to gold, silver and bronze medal winners in the Olympic Games. Earlier, the prize money for gold medal winners was Rs 2.25 crore and for silver it was Rs 1.5 crore.
Government’s focus on para athletes too
The Punjab government is not only promoting the players who won medals in the Olympics and Asian Games, but is also taking special care of para athletes and special athletes. The new sports policy includes special Olympics Para World Games (₹75, 50 and 30 lakh), badminton’s Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, BWF World Tour Finals (₹75, 50 and 40 lakh), tennis Grand Slam (₹75, 50 and 40 lakh), Azlan Shah Hockey Cup (₹75, 50 and ₹40 lakh), Diamond League and recognised tournaments of internationally reputed organisations (₹75, 50 and 40 lakh), Deaf World Cup, Blind World Cup (₹60, 40 and 20 lakh), Youth Olympic Games (₹50, 30 and 20 lakh).
The government is giving a lot of support to the players
Apart from this, Balbir Singh Senior Scholarship Scheme has been introduced for the first time to provide monthly scholarship to medal winners at the national level. Under this scheme, there is a provision to provide a scholarship of Rs 16,000 to the national medal winner at the senior level and Rs 12,000 to the national medal winner at the junior level. Also, a provision has been made to give various job positions to the top 500 medal winners in a special cadre, which includes 40 deputy directors, 92 senior coaches, 138 coaches and 230 junior coaches. Overall, the Punjab government is giving a lot of encouragement to sports and sportspersons.
