Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane said on Wednesday that Rohit Sharma doesn’t need anyone to tell him what to do and will have no trouble scoring big once he is back in form. India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit, will return to Ranji Trophy action after a gap of almost 10 years. All eyes will be on Rohit and his India opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal when Mumbai takes on Jammu and Kashmir at the BKC ground here on Thursday.

Rahane Praises Rohit Sharma’s Character and Confidence

Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane, during a practice session on Wednesday, expressed his admiration for Rohit Sharma’s character and composure. Rahane shared his thoughts ahead of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting Rohit’s relaxed and confident approach to the game.

“Rohit Is Rohit”

Speaking to the media, Rahane said, “Look, Rohit is Rohit. We all know this. You also know his character. I am very happy to have both Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal back in the Mumbai dressing room.” He added that Rohit never lets pressure affect him and has a comfortable attitude, even at the international level. “He knows his game well, so no one needs to tell him what to do,” Rahane said.

Confident in Rohit’s Comeback

Rahane expressed confidence that Rohit would regain form once he spent time at the crease. “He hasn’t made any changes in himself, which is a very good thing,” Rahane added. The Mumbai captain acknowledged that Rohit has struggled to play big innings in recent months, especially after losses in the Test series against New Zealand and Australia, but emphasized that ups and downs are a part of every player’s career.

Determination to Perform Well

Having shared the Indian dressing room with Rohit for years, Rahane spoke about Rohit’s passion for the game. “The important thing is that Rohit is determined to perform well. I am sure that once he steps on the field, he will deliver,” Rahane said. He also praised Rohit’s efforts during practice sessions on January 21, expressing confidence in a strong performance.

One Match Before National Duties

Rahane confirmed that this Ranji Trophy match could likely be Rohit’s only appearance this season, as he will return to captain India in the three-match ODI series against England starting February 6, followed by the Champions Trophy. Rahane remarked, “I think he will play only this match. I am not sure about his availability for the next one. His suggestions will be very valuable for us over the next four days.”
