The BCCI has announced the squad for the T20 series against England. Suryakumar Yadav has been named the captain, while Axar Patel has been appointed as the vice-captain. The team includes a mix of young and experienced players. However, the selectors did not include aggressive batsmen like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant in the T20 squad. Both players were part of the Indian team during the Australia tour. Now, Kapil Dev has shared his thoughts on their exclusion from the team.

Kapil Dev’s Reaction on Team Selection

Kapil Dev, who led India to victory in the 1983 ODI World Cup, shared his thoughts on the recent team selection. He stated, “I don’t want to comment on the decisions of others. The selectors have chosen the team after much consideration. If I say something, it might come across as criticism, and I don’t wish to criticize.”

The team for the three-match ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy 2025 has yet to be announced. Kapil added that players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant might have opportunities to return in these tournaments.

Kapil Dev on Rohit and Kohli’s Poor Form

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli faced widespread criticism for their underwhelming performances on the Australia tour. Kohli managed only 190 runs in nine innings, including one century, often getting caught out on deliveries outside the off-stump. Captain Rohit’s record was even poorer, scoring just 31 runs in five innings across three matches. Kapil said, “Virat and Rohit are great players. Let them decide their future in the game. They deserve the space to make their decisions.”

Bumrah’s Captaincy and Leadership Discussion

During Rohit’s absence on the Australia tour, Jasprit Bumrah captained India in two matches. When asked about potential candidates for the captaincy, Kapil Dev stated, “There should be no controversy over this. Every captain replaces someone else, and whoever is chosen as the captain should be given full time to prove their worth.”
