New Delhi: Gujarat Titans secured their first victory of IPL 2025 by defeating Mumbai Indians by 36 runs. The match, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, saw Gujarat posting a formidable total of 196 runs while batting first. In response, Mumbai Indians failed to chase the target and were bowled out for 160 runs.
Gujarat Titans’ Power-Packed Batting Performance
Gujarat Titans’ batsmen displayed an aggressive approach from the beginning. The openers set the foundation with quick runs, while the middle-order capitalized on the momentum to push the score to a competitive 196. Their calculated shot selection and strategic partnerships played a crucial role in setting up a challenging target.
Mumbai Indians’ Struggle with the Bat
Chasing 197, Mumbai Indians got off to a disastrous start, losing both openers within the first 35 runs. Rohit Sharma managed only 8 runs, while Ryan Rickelton departed after scoring just 6. Although Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma stitched a crucial 62-run partnership, Gujarat’s bowling attack kept the pressure on.
The middle-order collapsed as wickets tumbled rapidly. Tilak Varma contributed 39 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav played a quickfire knock of 48 off 28 balls. However, apart from these two, no other Mumbai batter could make an impact. Captain Hardik Pandya failed to step up, scoring just 11 runs, while Robin Minz was dismissed for 3. Naman Dhir tried to resist with 18 runs, but it wasn’t enough to steer MI towards victory.
Gujarat’s Lethal Bowling Attack Dismantles Mumbai
Gujarat Titans’ bowling unit dominated the game. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets each, while Kagiso Rabada and Sai Kishore claimed one wicket each. Although Mitchell Santner chipped in with a late 18-run cameo, the required run rate had already skyrocketed, making it impossible for MI to recover.
With this commanding win, Gujarat Titans opened their account in IPL 2025, while Mumbai Indians suffered their second consecutive defeat, raising concerns over their form in the tournament.
