New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has put an end to retirement rumors following India’s Champions Trophy victory, which had been a topic of discussion even before the team landed in Dubai for the ICC tournament. After lifting the trophy, Rohit made it clear:”One more thing. I am not retiring from this format. I am saying this now to prevent any further  speculation.”

The 37-year-old Indian skipper has not set a definitive timeline for his career but has his sights on the 2027 ODI World Cup. According to a new report, Rohit plans to extend his ODI career until the 2027 event, with significant support from India’s assistant coach and his former Mumbai teammate, Abhishek Nayar.

Focused on Fitness and Competitive Edge

A report by Cricbuzz states that Rohit is determined to stay fit and competitive for the 2027 World Cup. He had already announced his retirement from T20 internationals after leading India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Sources confirm that Rohit has laid out a detailed plan to maintain peak performance, with Nayar playing a crucial role in his fitness, batting, and overall approach.

The report highlights:

“A key element of Rohit’s long-term plans is Abhishek Nayar, who is regarded as a highly intelligent coach well-versed in modern techniques and strategies. Several Indian cricketers, including KL Rahul, have worked with him and credited him for their improvement. Rohit will team up with Nayar as part of his preparation for the coming years.”

Test Cricket & IPL’s Role in Rohit’s Future

Despite his ODI ambitions, Rohit remains committed to Test cricket. However, his future in the longest format may depend on his performance in the upcoming IPL season.

India is set to tour England for a five-match Test series in June, but selectors have yet to decide on the team captain. When asked about Rohit’s chances of making the squad, a reliable source stated:
“Let the IPL conclude first. Only an astrologer can predict the future beyond that.”

With Rohit’s plans becoming clearer, fans can expect to see him leading the Indian team for years to come.
