South Africa Squad Champions Trophy 2025: South Africa has announced their team for the Champions Trophy 2025, with Temba Bavuma appointed as the captain. Bavuma has had a strong record so far, and under his leadership, South Africa performed brilliantly in the last T20 World Cup, reaching the final. Now, the team is ready for the Champions Trophy. South Africa has also included two deadly bowlers in the squad, with Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje making a return.
The Proteas has included Lungi Ngidi in their squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Ngidi last played an ODI for the team against Ireland in October 2024. He has a solid record, having played 62 ODIs and taken 96 wickets, with his best performance being 6 wickets for 58 runs in a match. Keshav Maharaj, Tabrez Shamsi, Ryan Rickelton, and Kagiso Rabada are also part of the squad. Rabada is known for his lethal bowling skills.
Anrich Nortje has made his return to the ODI team after a long absence and will feature in the Champions Trophy. Nortje last played an ODI for South Africa against Australia in September 2023. He has played 22 ODIs, taking 36 wickets so far.
Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi in; Coetzee Out
Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the 2019 World Cup squad due to a finger injury and again missed the 2023 World Cup squad because of a back injury. After being sidelined for the game against Australia in September 2023, Nortje made his comeback to international cricket in May 2024. Unfortunately, he was injured again after playing in the T20 World Cup in June and missed the series against Pakistan at home. He also missed the first match of the SA20 that started last week.
However, Nortje is now fully fit to play, and South Africa’s coach Rob Walter has included him in the Champions Trophy squad starting in February. Provided he avoids further injuries during the ongoing SA20, Nortje, with 36 wickets in 22 matches, will get a third chance to play in the prestigious 50-over ICC tournament.

He missed the series against Pakistan due to injury, but now he is back and ready for the Champions Trophy. On the other hand, Gerald Coetzee, who impressed with 20 wickets during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, has not been included in the Champions Trophy squad (SA Squad For Champions Trophy 2025).
