During the Australia tour, there were reports about a rift in Team India’s dressing room, which caused quite a stir. Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir later stated that it would be best for the team’s atmosphere if players and coaches kept their discussions private. After returning to India, the BCCI held a review meeting to address these matters. In the meeting, Gambhir accused Sarfaraz Khan, who was on the tour, of leaking information. Reports suggest that Gambhir claimed Sarfaraz had shared confidential details.

Did Sarfaraz Khan Leak Team Secrets?

BCCI officials recently held a review meeting with Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Various issues, including performance and internal matters, were discussed. According to media reports, Sarfaraz Khan was accused of leaking dressing room conversations to the media. Gambhir specifically pointed to a news article published in the Indian Express claiming that he had been furious with players following the team’s loss in the Melbourne Test.

Gambhir’s Dressing Room Anger

After losing in Melbourne, Gambhir reportedly reprimanded the entire team, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, in the dressing room. Additionally, a separate report nicknamed ‘Mr. Fix It’ claimed that a player opposed appointing Jasprit Bumrah as captain, suggesting himself as the interim leader. Although Virat Kohli was rumoured to be this player, no names were officially confirmed, and Gambhir is yet to provide solid proof to back his allegations.

Will Sarfaraz Khan Be Dropped from Team India?

In 2019, during the ODI World Cup, similar leaks about a rift between Rohit and Virat led to one or two players being dropped from the squad. This raises the question: Will Sarfaraz face the same fate? As of now, no official statement has been issued. However, if the allegations are proven true, disciplinary action might follow. Notably, Ishan Kishan was sidelined for 14 months in the past due to a breach of discipline, showing that the BCCI takes such matters seriously.
