Ranji Trophy Live Updates: Shardul Thakur scored a crucial fifty to save Mumbai from humiliation against Jammu & Kashmir after the star-studded batting line-up collapsed on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC, in Mumbai. Fondly known as “Lord,” Thakur came to Mumbai’s rescue when the score was 47/7. The all-rounder scored 51 off 56 balls, helping Mumbai post a total of 120 in their first innings today (January 23).

Lord Shardul Saves Mumbai’s Honor

Shardul Thakur came to the crease and did his best to save Mumbai’s honour. Amidst the collapse of the star-studded batting line-up, Shardul scored a crucial half-century in a time of crisis. He made 51 runs off 57 balls, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes, and helped Mumbai reach 120 runs.

Jammu & Kashmir’s Brilliant Bowling Attack

Jammu and Kashmir’s Umar Nazir and Yudhveer Singh bowled exceptionally well, rattling the Mumbai batsmen. Despite a strong 63-run partnership between Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian, which lasted 66 balls, Mumbai’s recovery was cut short. Nabi dismissed Tanush for 26, and Yudhveer eventually dismissed Shardul, leaving Mumbai all out for 120.

Mumbai All Out for 120

Mumbai’s entire team was bowled out for 120 runs in 33.2 overs, thanks to brilliant bowling from Jammu and Kashmir’s Aqib Nabi (2 wickets), Umar Nazir (4 wickets), and Yudhveer Singh (4 wickets for 31 runs). Shardul and Tanush’s 63-run partnership provided a much-needed boost, but it was not enough to save Mumbai.

Indian Stars Fail in Ranji Trophy

Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill—these big names of Indian cricket failed to perform in the Ranji Trophy. Despite playing after a long time in domestic cricket, these players couldn’t make a significant impact in the first innings. The second half of the Ranji Trophy started on January 23, but these players’ performances fell short of expectations.

Veterans Struggle to Score

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who have been regulars in India’s Test team, played for Mumbai but struggled in this match. Neither batsman reached double digits in the first innings. Yashasvi faced 8 balls for 4 runs, while Rohit faced 19 balls and scored just 3 runs.

Shreyas Iyer Also Struggles

Another star, Shreyas Iyer, playing for Mumbai, couldn’t shine either. He was the only one to score above 10 runs but was dismissed for 11.
