Shreyas Iyer: Indian cricket team’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer has said many important things in his latest interview. The last few times have been full of ups and downs for Shreyas Iyer. First he was dropped from the Indian Test team and then his central contract was also cancelled. However, Iyer took all these things as a challenge and faced them strongly.

I had to fight against prejudices

Shreyas Iyer spoke his heart out in an interview to the media. Shreyas Iyer had to fight the notions made about his so-called technical shortcomings, he was typecast and his central contract was cancelled within a few months of becoming a World Cup hero
But Shreyas Iyer remained firm despite all this and kept moving forward trusting his honesty and sensible mind. He also got sweet results for this. In recent times, he has become India’s most reliable batsman at number four and skipper Rohit Sharma had described him as a ‘silent hero’ after the team’s Champions Trophy title win a few days ago.

Shreyas said

When asked about his weakness against the short ball, Shreyas said, Maybe that was the perception or I was typecast, but I always knew my strength and potential and I had confidence in myself. In the last eight ODIs, he has scored runs at an average of 53 at number four. Regarding this, he said, the game keeps changing. Therefore, the player has to constantly improve his performance. I am happy that I could play with a positive mindset and trust my process.

He suffered a back injury during the home Test series against England last year and then also lost his central contract as he was practising with his then IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders to play the Ranji Trophy. Under Shreyas’ captaincy, KKR won the IPL and then he returned to the Indian ODI team. Shreyas, who is going to captain Punjab Kings from this IPL season, said, “I kept my process simple. I did not think much and kept working honestly. I was confident that my honesty and performance would get me a chance again.”
