Shubman Gill In Test: Shubman Gill has been constantly searching for his form in Test matches played outside Asia. He has not been able to make a significant impact in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the three Tests of the series played so far, Gill’s highest score has been just 31 runs, which he made in the Adelaide Test.
Gill’s last half-century in Test matches played outside Asia came in the Brisbane Test of 2021, where he scored 91 runs. Since then, he has played 16 Test innings outside Asia, accumulating only 267 runs at an average of 17.80, with a highest score of 36 runs.
Struggles Continue in Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Shubman Gill’s bat has remained quiet in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well. He has played two Tests in the series so far. In the first Test in Adelaide, Gill scored 31 and 28 runs in both innings. In the third Test, played in Brisbane, Gill could only manage 1 run. Now, expectations are high for Gill to play a strong innings in the upcoming fourth Test of the series, which will be held in Melbourne.
Selectors’ Confidence in Gill Despite Ongoing Struggles
There is no doubt about Shubman Gill’s potential. The selectors and team management were confident in giving him the No. 3 spot, especially as they moved on from Cheteshwar Pujara. To be fair to Gill, he had justified their faith with three centuries and as many fifties before arriving in Australia. On this tour, Gill was expected to step into Pujara’s shoes but in his style. However, he has visibly struggled so far.
We keep talking about Rohit and Virat. But none of the next gen have stood up except Jaiswal at Perth.
Gill has been around for long enough. Mediocre at best. Unless he puts his hand up in tough situations all these tags of great player is misplaced. @RevSportzGlobal #INDvsAUS

Gill Reflects on His Performance
Ahead of the Brisbane Test, Gill explained his struggles, calling his performance in Adelaide a one-off. He mentioned that the pink ball posed its own challenges. “I think I faltered in the first innings because of what happened at the other end (wickets tumbling). I took that on me. There was a period where I faced one ball in four overs, and the next ball I faced, I missed a straight, fuller ball. These are the challenges you face in Test cricket,” Gill had said.
