New Delhi: A historic and extraordinary Test match has been announced for the year 2027! Cricket Australia has confirmed that to celebrate 150 years of men’s Test cricket, Australia and England will face off in a special day-night Pink Ball Test. This much-anticipated match will be played from March 11-15, 2027, at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which has previously hosted several legendary cricket encounters.

Why Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)?

The decision to host this historic Australia vs England Test at the MCG holds great significance. The first-ever Test match in cricket history was played at this very venue in 1877. Additionally, when Test cricket completed 100 years in 1977, a special centenary Test was also held at the MCG. Now, in 2027, another landmark match will take place, but this time, it will be a thrilling day-night encounter under lights with the pink ball.

Although this historic Test will not be part of the World Test Championship schedule, it will be one of the 12 Test matches played in the season. The match is expected to attract global cricket fans and add another golden chapter to the legacy of Test cricket.

Who Won the First-Ever Test Match?

The first-ever Test match in cricket history took place from March 15-19, 1877, at the MCG. Australia batted first and posted a total of 245 runs. Charles Bannerman was the star of the match, scoring a remarkable 165 runs for the Aussies.

In response, England was bowled out for 196 runs, giving Australia a first-innings lead of 49 runs. In the second innings, Australia managed to score 104 runs, setting England a target of 155 to win.
