Vignesh Puthir: Mumbai Indians player Vignesh Puthur made his IPL debut as an impact player during the second innings, stepping in for Rohit Sharma. He seized this opportunity to create a memorable debut, claiming his first IPL wicket by dismissing CSK captain Rituraj Gaikwad. Following this, he also took the wicket of the explosive batsman Shivam Dubey, finishing his spell with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 32 runs.
After the dismissal of Rahul Tripathi, Rituraj Gaikwad and Rachin formed a strong partnership, adding 67 runs for CSK. However, Vignesh Puthur, in his debut match, reignited Mumbai Indians’ hopes of victory by taking two crucial wickets. He caught Rituraj Gaikwad (53) out on the fifth ball of the eighth over, marking his first IPL wicket, and later dismissed Shivam Dubey (9) in the tenth over. The Mumbai Indians acquired Vignesh Puthur for Rs 30 lakh during the IPL auction.
Debut match
In his debut match against Chennai Super Kings, Vignesh Puthur took a total of 3 wickets while conceding 32 runs in his 4-over spell. His third wicket was Deepak Hooda, following the dismissals of Rituraj Gaikwad and Shivam Dubey. Captain Suryakumar’s decision to end his over after 3 overs proved to be a significant error, as Vignesh had already made a substantial impact by taking 3 wickets in that span. Ultimately, CSK triumphed in the match by 4 wickets, successfully chasing down the target of 156 on the first ball of the final over.
Never played for his state team
Although Vignesh Puthur has yet to represent the Kerala team in domestic cricket, he had already secured his IPL contract, having been purchased by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh at the IPL auction.
