Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni demonstrated remarkable agility behind the stumps during the IPL 2025 match against the Mumbai Indians. His performance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai evoked memories of his earlier days in cricket. Dhoni executed a stunning stumping of Suryakumar Yadav in the 11th over of Mumbai’s innings, leaving spectators astonished.
It is well-known how swiftly Dhoni can evade the batsman while keeping wicket, a skill he has showcased numerous times throughout his career with India. At the age of 43, Dhoni’s continued participation in the game is noteworthy. His stumping of Suryakumar in this inaugural match of IPL 2025 even caught the attention of the stand-in captain of the Mumbai Indians, who was leading the team in the absence of Hardik Pandya, currently serving a one-match suspension for a slow over rate from the previous season.
During Mumbai’s innings, Noor Ahmed bowled a googly in the 10.3 over that veered outside the off stump.

Suryakumar stepped out of his crease to play a shot but missed the delivery. Dhoni, positioned behind the stumps, wasted no time in executing the stumping, completing the action in a mere 0.12 seconds. He appealed for the wicket, prompting the umpire to consult the third umpire for confirmation.
However, Suryakumar, fully aware of Dhoni’s quick reflexes, opted to head back to the pavilion without awaiting the third umpire’s verdict. Subsequent television replays confirmed that Dhoni had successfully dislodged the bails before Suryakumar could re-enter the crease.
