New Delhi: Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday. After this, he underwent angioplasty. According to ESPNcricinfo report, 36-year-old Tamim suffered severe chest pain during the first innings of the 50-over match being played between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club.

He was captaining Mohammedan and after fielding just one over, he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Tamim Iqbal underwent surgery there and its video is going viral on social media. Not only this, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has also prayed for Tamim. He wished him a speedy recovery through a post on Instagram.

Yuvraj Singh expressed grief over Tamim’s deteriorating health and wrote, ‘My prayers and prayers are with Tamim Iqbal and his family. You have faced strong opponents and have come back strongly, this is no different. I wish you a speedy recovery. Stay strong, champion.’

After the heart attack, Tamim Iqbal was taken to the hospital by helicopter but he could not be airlifted from the BKSP ground in Savar. He was later taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital. The treating doctors issued an official medical bulletin saying, ‘Tamim came to us in a critical condition. We can call it a heart attack. We did angiography and angioplasty to remove the blockage. The medical procedure was successful. Due to the coordination between the BKSP and the hospital medical staff, Tamim could be treated immediately.

Tamim’s career

Tamim retired from international cricket for the second time in January this year. Earlier, in July 2023, he announced his retirement in an emotional press conference, but changed his decision within 24 hours after the intervention of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.Tamim last played for the Bangladesh team in 2023. He scored 5134 runs in 70 Tests and 8,357 runs in 243 ODIs. Apart from this, he has scored 1,758 runs in 78 T20 Internationals.
