New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals made headlines during the IPL 2025 auction by signing 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for a whopping ₹1.1 crore. However, fans eager to see this young sensation in action will have to wait a little longer. Rajasthan Royals’ head coach Rahul Dravid has revealed that they are grooming the youngster and will not hesitate to play him when the right time comes.
As of now, Rajasthan Royals are set to play their third IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings (RR vs CSK). Unfortunately, the team has lost both of their previous matches and is currently at the bottom of the points table.
Rahul Dravid on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Debut
Speaking at a press conference, Rahul Dravid emphasized that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is an impressive young talent who is currently gaining valuable experience by being around senior players.
“He is training very well and looks like a highly talented and exciting player. However, we have other good players too, and our responsibility is to prepare him properly. We want to give him time to adapt to the environment, practice with the players, and gain experience rather than throwing him directly into a high-pressure match. Developing a player is a process, and this is part of it. If the opportunity arises, we won’t hesitate to give him a chance,” said Dravid.
Rahul Dravid Backs Riyan Parag at No. 3
With Sanju Samson unavailable, Riyan Parag has been leading the team and batting at No. 3. However, his performances haven’t been great, scoring just 4 runs against SRH and 25 runs against KKR. Despite this, Rahul Dravid has backed him to continue at the same position.
“Look, Riyan Parag is one of our best batters, and we want him to play as many balls as possible. In T20 cricket, 20 overs is a very short time, and the more deliveries Riyan faces, the better it is for our team. Moving him to No. 3 was a positive decision so that he gets more time to settle in and score runs. He is comfortable in any batting position and is capable of performing well,” Dravid explained.
