After playing the Test series against Australia, the Indian team is now set to play the ODI series against England. Additionally, India will be participating in the Champions Trophy in February, with the BCCI expected to announce the squad in a day or two. Meanwhile, reports suggest that KL Rahul may be excluded from the England series, with Rishabh Pant potentially replacing him in the team.

Starting January 22, India will play a 5-match T20 and a 3-match ODI series against England. There are reports that regular ODI wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul may be rested for this series. If Rahul is rested, Rishabh Pant will likely get the opportunity to play as the wicketkeeper-batsman in all 8 matches against England. This raises concerns for Rahul regarding his spot in the Champions Trophy. However, it is reported that the selectors are giving Rahul rest with the assurance of his inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad.

KL Rahul Set to Be Rested for England Series

If media reports are to be believed, Indian batsman KL Rahul is set to be rested for the eight-match white-ball series against England at home, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs. However, Rahul has received confirmation from the national selectors that he will be included in the squad for the Champions Trophy in February.

A source close to the development told TOI, “Rahul’s place in the Champions Trophy is confirmed. Therefore, he will be rested from the England series.” Though currently not a part of India’s T20 squad, Rahul has been the team’s number-1 wicketkeeper-batsman in ODIs and has consistently performed in the middle order.

Rahul’s Performance in Australia Boosted His Place in the XI

KL Rahul was allowed to open the innings during India’s tour of Australia due to Rohit Sharma’s absence. He seized the chance with both hands, which is why he played all five matches of the series. Despite his efforts, India lost the series 1-3.
