DA Hike: Ahead of the festival, the State government increases the DA of lakhs of employees. Great news for government employees and pensioners in Assam! The state government has raised the dearness allowance by over 2 percent. This new allowance will take effect from January 1, 2025. The Assam Cabinet has given the green light for this change. Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, mentioned that an additional 2% will be added to salaries before Bihu, with arrears being paid out in April and May. This move will benefit millions of employees and pensioners across the state.

The dearness allowance will now rise to 55%

Previously, in October 2024, the state government had already increased the dearness allowance by 3%. With this latest adjustment, the allowance for state government employees and pensioners will go from 53% to 55%. This increase follows a similar decision by the Union Cabinet on March 28, which raised the dearness allowance for central government employees and pensioners by 2%, also bringing their allowance up to 55%.

Remember, the increase in your salary due to the dearness allowance hike will vary based on your basic salary. The higher your basic salary, the more significant the increase in your overall pay will be.

CM Himanta Biswa shared a message on social media platform X, extending Bihu greetings to our employees and pensioners! The Assam Cabinet has approved an increase in the Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief (DA/DR) for state government employees and pensioners from 53% to 55%. This change will positively impact over 738,000 employees and pensioners across the state. Notably, Assam is the first state in the nation to implement a 55% DA/DR increase in April. We take pride in the dedication of all employees who play a vital role in Assam’s development.

The Rajasthan government has made an important decision

Previously, they announced a two percent increase in the dearness allowance for state employees. This change will positively impact 1.24 million employees and pensioners. For the financial year 2025-26, state employees will receive a two percent boost in their DA. Pensioners will also benefit from a similar two percent increase in dearness relief. As a result, starting January 1, 2025, employees and pensioners under the seventh pay scale will see their dearness allowance or dearness relief rise to 55 percent, up from the previous 53 percent.
