Before the EID festival, there is good news for state government employees. The state government increases Dearness Allowance or DA up to 3%. Yes you’ve heard it right. Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha shared some exciting news on Friday, March 21, 2025. After unveiling the budget for the 2025-26 financial year in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, he announced a 3 percent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for government employees and pensioners.
This increase will raise the allowance from 30 percent to 33 percent, effective April 1, 2025. The Chief Minister noted that this adjustment will require an additional expenditure of Rs 300 crore from the government.
Employees and pensioners in Tripura are thrilled with this announcement, as they have been eagerly awaiting an increase in their allowances. Their long-standing hopes have finally been realized. Earlier that day, Tripura’s Finance Minister Pranajit Singh Roy presented a budget totaling Rs 32,423.44 crore in the assembly. The budget session is set to continue until April 1.
During this period, there will be extensive discussions regarding the budget, development initiatives, and government policies. Many are optimistic that this session will lead to significant decisions for the state. Prior to the budget session, a meeting was held in the assembly on Tuesday, led by Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, with participation from government ministers, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhary.
The agenda for the session was established during this meeting. Later that evening, another gathering of ministers and ruling party MLAs took place at Chief Minister Manik Saha’s official residence to discuss preparations for the budget session.
This budget session is crucial for Tripura. It will focus on discussions about financial strategies, development projects, and government regulations for the upcoming year. Manik Saha’s administration aims to steer the state in a new direction through this session. It kicked off positively with the announcement of a hike in DA/DR for both employees and pensioners. Now, we’ll have to wait and see what decisions are made.
