Good news for everyone. The Uttar Pradesh government is back with a new initiative aimed at helping poor families with the marriage of their daughters. This is the marriage grant scheme, which offers a financial boost of Rs 20,000 to eligible families.

Recently, the Director of Social Welfare announced the revival of the Personal Marriage Grant Scheme, which had been on hold for the past two years. This program will provide the Rs 20,000 grant to families from general castes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes who are in need.

Suryakumar Mishra, the Social Welfare Officer in Firozabad, confirmed that the scheme is now active again. The grant will be given to the girl’s guardian to assist with marriage expenses for those in financially struggling households.

To qualify for this support, families must have an annual income of Rs 46,080 in rural areas and Rs 56,800 in urban areas.

To take advantage of this scheme, beneficiaries need to apply online, and their applications will be verified at the development block level. Once approved by the block officer, the Social Welfare Department will deposit the Rs 20,000 directly into the family head’s bank account.

It’s important to mention that previously, the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme facilitated group weddings for daughters from low-income families. With the return of the Individual Marriage Grant Scheme, the government is now focusing on helping families manage their daughters’ weddings individually.

The Social Welfare Department has announced that this scheme is back in action as of January 2025, and they’re spreading the word through ongoing promotions. It’s set to be a big help for families looking to marry off their daughters from home.
