Holi festival is around the corner. Meanwhile, the State government gives a holi gift to so many women. CM Yogi has made a generous announcement ahead of Holi, providing a special gift to underprivileged daughters and widows. The Chief Minister revealed that the funding for the mass marriage scheme will be doubled, and the incentive for widow remarriage has been significantly raised from Rs 11,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Additionally, the financial support for the marriage of widows’ daughters has also been increased to Rs 1 lakh.

Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vibah Yojana

Launched in October 2017, the ‘Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vibah Yojana’ aims to foster community and social unity. This initiative organizes marriage ceremonies that respect the traditions of various communities and religions while also working to reduce extravagant wedding expenses.

The scheme is available to families with an annual income of up to Rs 2,00,000 from all sources. Initially, the program provided Rs 51,000 to brides, but this amount has now been raised to Rs 1 lakh to help them start their married lives. This sum covers essential wedding expenses, including clothing, jewelry, and utensils. A minimum of 10 couples must register for the mass marriage, which is conducted at the levels of urban bodies (Nagar Panchayat, Nagar Parishad, Nagar Nigam), Kshetra Panchayat, and Zilla Panchayat.

Increased incentive for widow remarriage

For women whose husbands have passed away and who do not fall under the income tax bracket, the Yogi government has also raised the remarriage incentive from Rs 11,000 to Rs 1 lakh. To benefit from this scheme, newlyweds must submit an application to the District Probation Officer’s office within one year of their marriage. After the District Officer’s approval, the couple will receive the Rs 1 lakh as per the new announcement.

Support for the marriage of widows’ daughters has also been enhanced. CM Yogi emphasized this in his statement.
