Huawei Launches Unique Pocket 2: Its First Foldable Smartphone to Rival Samsung

The foldable smartphone segment is heating up with brands launching their innovative offerings. Huawei has now thrown its hat in the ring with the launch of the Huawei Pocket 2 foldable phone in China.

Packed with premium features, fluid folding design and an attractive price tag, the Pocket 2 seems poised to give stiff competition to the likes of Samsung Flip series.

Display

The Huawei Pocket 2 sports a tall 6.9-inch LTPO OLED foldable primary display with 2,790 x 1,188 pixel resolution and up to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. You also get a convenient 1.04-inch OLED cover display on the rear when folded.

The tablet-sized unfolded screen combined with HDR10 support results in an exceptional content viewing experience with sharp visuals and vibrant colors.

Chipset

Under the hood, the Pocket 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ 5nm chipset with octa-core CPU and Adreno 642L GPU. There are options of 8GB or 12GB LPDDR5 RAM paired with 256GB/512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

Camera

In terms of optics, the Pocket 2 sports a 40MP f/1.6 Sony IMX766 primary sensor with OIS assisted by a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens and 8MP f/2.4 telephoto snapper with 3x optical zoom and OIS.

There is also a 10.7MP selfie camera housed in the centrally aligned punch-hole notch on the inner foldable screen. The versatile camera arrangement captures crisp and shareworthy photos in different scenarios.

Battery

The Huawei Pocket 2 is powered by a decent 4,000mAh battery for extended runtime. It supports swift 66W wired and 50W wireless charging to quickly top up when low on juice. 15 minutes of plugged charging is rated to offer up to 120 minutes of typical usage time.

Design

With dimensions of 87mm x 75mm x 15.2mm (unfolded), the Huawei Pocket 2 features an eye-catching clamshell design constructed out of glass fiber reinforced polymers. When folded, it comfortably fits into your pocket like a regular smartphone.

There are two color variants – Premium Gold and Frost Silver to choose from. You can see notifications, app data and custom messages on the circular outer display even when it’s folded shut.

Price

Huawei has priced the Pocket 2 starting at around ₹87,000 for the 8GB/256GB base variant in China. We expect it to launch in other markets including India with a relatively cheaper price tag compared to Samsung foldable phones to make it more attractive.
