Lava, a domestic Indian smartphone brand, is gearing up to launch the O2, a budget-friendly phone targeting the value segment. Set to be unveiled on March 22, 2024, the Lava O2 promises a combination of decent specifications and an attractive price tag, making it a potential option for users looking for a no-frills smartphone experience.

Under the Hood: Unisoc Power and Stock Android

The Lava O2 is powered by the Unisoc T616 chipset, an octa-core processor that should handle everyday tasks and light gaming without much trouble. This is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking capabilities. Storage-wise, the phone comes with 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, which offers faster app loading times compared to eMMC storage found in some budget phones.

A major selling point of the Lava O2 is its stock Android 13 experience. Unlike some competitors that bloat their phones with unnecessary software, the Lava O2 offers a clean and up-to-date Android experience. This translates to a clutter-free user interface, faster performance, and timelier security updates.

Display and Design: Big Screen, Stylish Look

The Lava O2 boasts a large 6.5-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate. This translates to smoother scrolling and animations, enhancing the overall user experience. While the resolution is expected to be HD+ (720p), it should suffice for everyday use, especially considering the budget price point.

The design of the Lava O2 follows the current trend of a flat design with a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera. Lava has confirmed a Majestic Purple color option, and rumors suggest there might be a Green variant as well. The back is said to be made of AG glass, giving the phone a more premium look and feel.

Camera Setup: Focus on the Main Sensor

The camera department of the Lava O2 seems to be keeping things simple. The rear setup features a 50-megapixel primary sensor, likely accompanied by a secondary sensor for depth effects. While details about the front camera are scarce, leaks suggest an 8-megapixel selfie shooter.

Given the single rear camera setup, low-light photography might not be the O2’s forte. However, the 50-megapixel main sensor should capture decent images in good lighting conditions.

Battery and Other Features: Long-Lasting Power and Basic Essentials

The Lava O2 packs a 5,000mAh battery, a staple in the budget smartphone segment. This should provide ample power for a full day’s use, even for moderate users. The phone also supports 18W fast charging, allowing users to quickly top up the battery when needed.

In terms of other features, the Lava O2 is expected to have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security and a 3.5mm headphone jack, a welcome addition for audio enthusiasts who prefer wired headphones.
