Launched in July 2020, the OnePlus Nord marked a significant shift in the company’s strategy. Known for their flagship killers offering premium specs at competitive prices, the Nord entered the mid-range segment, aiming to deliver a compelling package without breaking the bank.

A Smooth Display and Capable Processor

The Nord boasts a 6.44-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. This translates to smoother visuals and a more responsive user experience, especially when scrolling and gaming. Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, which, while not the top-of-the-line chip, offers decent performance for everyday tasks and even some light gaming. It comes with options for 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking capabilities.

Camera System and Software

The quad-camera system on the rear of the Nord consists of a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. While it may not compete with the best camera phones on the market, it delivers decent image quality, particularly in well-lit conditions. The front-facing camera features a dual setup with a 16MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, catering to the selfie enthusiasts.

The Nord comes pre-installed with OxygenOS 10, a near-stock Android experience known for its clean interface and minimal bloatware. It received updates up to OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12, ensuring a relatively up-to-date software experience.

Battery Life and Design

The phone packs a 4115mAh battery, which, coupled with the efficient processor, provides a full day’s worth of usage for most users. Additionally, OnePlus’s Warp Charge 30T fast charging technology allows for quick top-ups, eliminating the anxiety of a dying battery.

Design-wise, the Nord features a plastic back and a glass front with a punch-hole display. While it may not feel as premium as some other smartphones, the build quality is solid, and the phone feels comfortable to hold. It comes in two color options: Blue Marble and Gray Ash.

A Mid-Range Option with Caveats

The OnePlus Nord was a solid mid-range offering at launch, especially considering its competitive price point. However, it’s important to remember that it was released in 2020. With newer and more powerful mid-range options available in the market today, the Nord might not be the most compelling choice for everyone.
